Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18cm) in height overall blazoned: Vert, a bend archy in the colors of the rainbow Proper between in chief the badge of the 2d Army Corps of the Civil War (a red three-leaf clover outlined in Gold), and in base the cap device of the Regiment of 1851 (the number "69" in Black on an oval shield surmounted by a trefoil and supported by two Irish wolfhounds rampant in Gold).

Symbolism
Green reflects the old facings of the 69th Infantry Regiment, the original organization. The rainbow is adapted from the shoulder sleeve insignia approved for the 42d Division during World War I. The old wolfhound cap device has been in use by the former unit since its organization.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 165th Infantry (69th New York National Guard) on 26 Apr 1924. It was amended to omit the motto from the design on 19 Aug 1924. On 17 Mar 1964 the insignia was redesignated for the 69th Infantry. It was redesignated on 9 Mar 1993 for the 69th Air Defense Artillery and on 30 Dec 1996, the insignia was redesignated for the 69th Infantry.
